The annual Tiki Oasis comes to San Diego from Wednesday, Aug. 2 to Sunday, Aug. 6 at the fabulous Town & Country Resort hotel in Mission Valley. This giant Tiki event is the original island-themed bash and the biggest of its kind in the world. The event will feature live music from some of the nation’s hottest Surf Rock and Punkabilly bands such as the Infernal Order of the Black Flame, Jason Hanna and The Swingin’ Bananas, Draculina, The Charades, The Messerchups, and The Black Widows.

The Tiki Oasis is one of the highlights of the summer in San Diego. This fun event pays homage to Tiki Culture, which is extremely popular now and was so prevalent in both art and architecture in Southern California, Palm Springs and especially Las Vegas in the ’60s. Tiki aficionados will converge on the Town & Country for an extended weekend of Tiki cocktails, music and art. The main pool will be ground zero for the event, with live music and fashion shows happening all day. Like its nerdy cousin ComicCon, the Tiki Oasis will feature panel discussions throughout the run of the event. ’50s pin-up glamour is also a big part of the Tiki Scene and the days festivities will culminate with a campy midnight burlesque shows.

Lee Joseph is the public relations tiki guru for the event and is excited to help promote another Tiki Oasis in San Diego. “This year’s Tiki Oasis theme is The Enchanted Sea – and we are thrilled to present a whole new lineup of seminars, including many theme-related subjects including The History of Swimwear, Our Own Paradise – the History of Black-Owned American Resorts, Sea is for Cocktail – Navigating the Murky Waters of Nautical Libations, Beach Bohemians of the 20th Century – The History of Beachcomber Style, The Legend Returns – Don the Beachcomber, The Chinese Connection, The Marriage of Tiki and Surfing – Unlockingking the courtship through sport, music, and media, The Evolution of Surfing Movie Music 1958-1972, Dances from the Caribbean Islands – Merengue, Cha Cha, Salsa, and many other seminars”
The event is a chance for everyone to don their most flamboyant Tiki apparel and hang out by the pool, check out some music, or enjoy some great Tiki cocktails at several poolside bars. The event will also feature a Tiki marketplace where guests can browse a selection of Tiki art, clothing and collectables. This market place is free and open to the public on Saturday and Sunday but the rest of the show is a ticketed event.

Tiki Oasis happens at Town and Country Resort which recently underwent 70 million-dollar renovation and has been re-imagined into a retro paradise inspired by the classic hotels of Las Vegas and Palm Springs in the ’60s. Tiki Oasis is all-inclusive and everyone is welcome to join the fun. They have made a concerted effort to ensure all the attendees feel valued, safe, and free to be their most authentic selves. They are committed to creating a culture of inclusion and respect, as reflected in Tiki Oasis’ Diversity & Inclusion Council, LGBTiki Meet-Up, and melanated Tiki Meetup.
Lee Joseph is beyond excited to have Tiki Oasis return to the Town & Country Resort because the motif of the remodeled resort mixes perfectly with the islander theme of the event. “We are happy to call Town and Country Resort our home – this will be our third year at this beautiful mid-century marvel, and we are excited to work again with their enthusiastic and super-friendly staff!”
