“We believe in food that works for you, to nourish you as healthfully as possible…without sacrificing flavor,” said Dr. Andrew Weill, co-founder of True Food Kitchen and renowned doctor of integrative medicine.
True Food Kitchen has become synonymous with good, healthy food full of flavor. Thus their motto: “Eat like your life depends on it.”
Their website states, “They believe in the power of whole, minimally processed foods. That means no food coloring, artificial sweeteners or colors, high fructose corn syrup, unpronounceable preservatives, or nitrates. We’re always looking for ways to add more veggies and nutrient-dense ingredients into our meals.”
They now only use Avocado Oil and Olive Oil. “We are 100% non-seed oils,” said Manager Daniel Shank.
“We have a seasonal menu and are currently in our winter season with dishes like Butternut Squash Pizza topped with lemon almond ricotta, caramelized onion organic kale and raisins, and Butternut Squash Soup and a market salad with honey roasted carrots, roasted cauliflower, organic mixed greens, pistachios, feta, and medjool dates. They also have a wildly popular charred cauliflower with medjool dates, harissa tahini, dill, mint, and pistachio.
“The Spaghetti Squash Casserole is a very popular dish, as is the Chicken Parmesan,” said Shank. If you like air-fried chicken, their “True Crisp’d” menu offers hormone and antibiotic-free chicken in various entrees. Many of their items are gluten-free. All Sourdough Pizzas can be made with a gluten-friendly crust.
Their current new lunch special is the $19.50 True Trio. You get a half salad and a cup of soup, or a wrap and either a half salad or a cup of soup. Both served with either lemonade or tea. This offer is Monday through Friday until 3 p.m.
“Our drinks are as important as our food and our bartenders juice our fruit daily to prepare for our fresh handcrafted drinks,” said Shank. “Our beers are always changing. We have 20 dedicated wines of which three are proprietor reserves.”
Today, there are locations throughout the USA, and San Diego is fortunate to have two restaurants, one in Mission Valley and one in UTC. “We’re always looking to open new locations,” added Shank.
True Food Kitchen has indoor and outdoor dining and is located in the Fashion Valley Mall, at 7007 Friars Rd, Suite 394. Phone (619) 810-2929. Reservations are highly recommended.
