From high atop the 11th story of Tioga Hall on the University of California, San Diego campus, students will celebrate Halloween by dropping a 350-pound candy-filled pumpkin from the roof at 12:30 p.m. today, Oct. 29. Students named the pumpkin “Drop & Give Me 50” in recognition of the university’s 50th anniversary. The goal each year is to measure the splat impact, and there is an ongoing effort to beat the 1995 record of 100 feet. To check out this “splatastic” event, visit the Muir quad between Tioga Hall and Tenaya Hall at UCSD, located at 9500 Gilman Drive.
