Teams that get on a roll can pile up quite the number of wins as time goes by.
Such is the case with the Patrick Henry High girls’ soccer team.
This past Thursday, PHHS rolled to a 6-1 win over Point Loma High. The game was at 2-1 heading into halftime before the Lady Patriots turned up the heat in the second half.
With the win, PHHS raised its record to 17-0-2 overall, 5-0 in league action.
According to PHHS Head Girls’ Soccer Coach Jason Renfro, “The leadership from our captains Grace Miller, Avery Slinger, and Naima Castro have propelled the Lady Patriots through the rigors of our season. They demand that each student athlete is accountable for their work in the classroom as well as on the field. Our defense going into the season was a glaring weakness after losing three seniors, but it has actually been a strength with Alex Wehrman, Katy Hinkin, Zoe Crickard, Elizabeth Barefoot, Abby Weiss, Emily Guerra, and Amanda Bear all providing an amazing group.
“Our midfield consists of Avery Slinger, Naima Castro, Chloe Tran, freshman Emma Cunningham, and Coral Castro. Our offense is led by Briahna Gieger, Kathryn Mokhov, Zoe Wehrman, Caitlin Cogan, Risa Soto-Webster, and Aleda Urbina.”As Renfro sees it, “This has been an amazing run to this point in the season, but there is so much work still to be accomplished. With the leadership of our captains the sky is the limit for this amazing group of Patriots.”
PHHS will next be in action on Jan. 30 at Cathedral Catholic.
