For anyone wishing to complain about traffic-calming measures on Del Mar Avenue, [city engineer] Oscar Valdivieso’s phone number is (619) 533-3182. I would like this published since he commented in a recent Beacon story that “his office hasn’t received any complaints since the signs were installed.” And, of course they hadn’t, since the community had no idea who to call or what his number is. By the way, he has not returned my phone call from three days ago.
Also I attended the [Peninsula Community Planning Board] meeting when the residents of Del Mar Avenue obtained their 4-way stop sign at Ligget Street and I can state with certainty that they would not accept any alternatives to a stop sign to control speed ” which the city gave them despite the fact that city policy prevents the use of stop signs to control speed. The traffic engineer justified it by laying in the middle of the street half way down the hill and claiming he could not see a coffee cup in the intersection! So when going through Del Mar Avenue and Ligget Street, cautious drivers should honk since this is a “dangerous intersection with obstructed visibility.”
