LA JOLLA — Jorge Narvaez is a 24-year-old ethnics studies major at the University of California, San Diego and a single father of two daughters. More recently, however, he has become somewhat of a celebrity, after posting a video on YouTube of him and his 6-year-old daughter Alexa singing the hit “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. Narvaez sings to his daughters every night before bedtime, and in an interview with an Austin-based music blog, he said “Alexa can hear a song one time and she can remember most of the words.” After a few runthroughs in late December, he set up the camera and recorded him and Alexa, a kindergartener, singing the whistle-happy song. “It was about 10 o’clock at night and Alexa was so exhausted,” he told a the blogger. “But the last time we did it was the best.” After putting Eliana, 2, who also sang on the first take, and Alexa into bed, Narvaez posted the acoustic cover on YouTube. The next day he said the video got more than 200 views, and now, less than two weeks later, it is up to more than 2 million. The video below speaks for itself.
