The Village Garden Club of La Jolla will present its annual Expressions in Art & Flowers exhibition Wednesday and Thursday, April 29 and 30, at Torrey Pines Christian Church, 8320 La Jolla Scenic Drive North.
Members will exhibit their paintings, sculpture, fabrics, jewelry, photographs, pottery and needlework in this 13th annual event; in turn, these will be interpreted by member floral designers through creative botanical arrangements. Popular demand resulted in a preview showing last year. This year’s preview show, April 29, runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and includes the San Diego Camarada chamber music group, refreshments, a no-host bar, drawings and a slideshow. The April 30 event runs from 8 a.m. to noon and includes a slideshow, music by guitarist Jimmy Patton, refreshments, drawings and the designers’ talks on their inspirations and creative processes. Admission to the April 29 show is $20; April 30 admission is $15. Members may attend both events for free.
Prepaid reservations by mail are preferred by April 24. Send a check, payable to VGCLJ, to Village Garden Club of La Jolla, c/o Expressions in Art & Flowers, P.O. Box 783, La Jolla, CA 92038.
Net proceeds from this event support the Schoolyard Garden Grants Program. The Village Garden Club of La Jolla, a 501(c)(3) organization, was organized in 1974 as a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. It has 425 members and supports horticulture.
The club also sponsors civic projects such as Penny Pines California Reforestation, Torrey Pines State Reserve Native Plant Restoration, Moores Cancer Center Healing Garden of Hope, Bouquets of Thanks for the Veterans Hospital and the Jacaranda Tree Planting Project.
