The La Jolla Village News celebrates its 11th birthday this week, as we mark the anniversary of our first paper with a new volume number on page 1.
Much has changed since those early days, of course, but some things are still the same. For example, we are still dedicated to bringing to La Jollans the most comprehensive news of this vibrant community.
The paper has expanded to two sections over the years, and our coverage now includes the quarterly La Jolla Today magazine. We are right now working on the next issue, which should be ready within the next few weeks.
I would like to publicly congratulate writer Nicole Sours Larson on her recent San Diego Press Club Award for her story “Unlocking the Da Vinci Code,” found in the Spring 2006 magazine. This marks the first award for La Jolla Today, and I am very proud that the Press Club judges underlined what I have always known: We have some of the best writers in San Diego, right here at San Diego Community Newspaper Group.
Any credit for the success of the Village News must necessarily include our co-publishers and our sales staff. I know that the paper could not have prospered without the expertise of our real estate sales specialist, Sheila Black. Her untimely death last month has saddened all of us, but we remember her cheerful and helpful spirit, and her calm demeanor, no matter what crisis might be on the horizon. We all miss her.
I also want to thank you, the readers, for your support, suggestions and even criticisms, all in the service of making your paper the best in La Jolla.
