After giving up two late leads in the first couple of matches of its three-game road trip, San Diego Wave will look to close out strong on Saturday against the Houston Dash at Shell Energy Stadium. The Wave had to settle for a 1-1 draw versus the Washington Spirit on June 15 and then endured a painful loss versus Gotham FC on June 19 giving up a goal at the death on both occasions.
The Wave also left valuable points on the NWSL table earlier in the season when it gave up a lead to the Seattle Reign on May 3 and then against Bay FC on May 17 seeing those opponents score in the final minutes as well.
The game on Saturday at the Houston Dash will be the first of two meetings this season as the team from Texas is also desperate to get back on track and sitting in 11th place with 13 points one point behind the 10th-place San Diego. Despite the slow start for both sides, there is still a decent chance that at least one of these teams make the playoffs since the top eight qualify with Racing Louisville, which currently holds the final postseason spot, sitting at 15 points.
The Wave will return home to the friendly confines of Snapdragon Stadium to take on the Chicago Red Stars on Friday, June 28, which is the sixth seed as every team has now played the same amount of matches at 13 each.
