Pacific Beach Elementary
– Teams of students at Pacific Beach Elementary School explored physics and engineering principles during the Egg-Drop Challenge, when they designed, built, and tested their own contraptions to protect an egg from a fall. This was the final session of a year-long science program created and facilitated by FOPBE and taught by science teachers Danielle Adler and Stacy Circuit. PBE plans to continue its education of students through the scientific lens with principal Denise Goulart and PBE teachers, staff, and volunteers. Thank you to the many donors who made this science program possible for the children. CPJMA – Crown Point Junior Music Academy fourth-grade students won a silver medal and fifth-grade students won a gold medal at the Music Memory Bee, held in May at San Diego State University. The Music Memory Bee is a countywide final competition featuring excerpts and fragments performed onstage by a live orchestra. Prominent composers of orchestral, vocal, choral, keyboard and jazz pieces from five major historical periods were featured requiring students to recognize 16 major themes and remember the names and composers of the selections. Congratulations to each student who participated at this competition and thank you to music teachers Ms. Burton and Mrs. Orem for all their experience, dedication, and hard work. They have taught music more than 30 years and hold certification that includes Orff-Schulwerk and Kodaly I, II and III levels.
