PACIFIC BEACH — “Jersey” Jeff Williams, has lived in Pacific Beach for 34 years, has accumulated 69 days sober and yesterday was his first day at his new job as a sign spinner standing beside Garnet Avenue in front of Pacific Plaza II. “I’m clowning around, being the center of attention,” Williams said. “It’s a great job.” He lived on the street for nine years, he said. However, now with his new job as a sign flipper for the UPS Store, 1804 Garnet Ave., he is ready to move forward with his positive attitude in tow. “I went to clown school years ago,” Williams said. He said that was why he was dressed like a scarecrow. The costume has nothing to do with the approaching costume-themed Halloween. Williams joked that while he moved here 34 years ago, he is not sure if that qualifies him as a local. He is thankful for the job and looks forward to having fun with it, Williams said. — DEBBIE HATCH
