Save the date because the East Village Association is about to hit it out of the park this summer! On Saturday, July 13th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the beloved neighborhood will explode in excitement as the East Village Block Party makes its return to the streets of Downtown. Slated to take place on J Street from 7th to 10th Avenues in front of Petco Park, baseball fans and community members of all ages are invited to come out and celebrate San Diego’s beloved Padres ahead of their game against the Atlanta Braves.
After having to reschedule due to inclement weather, the new date promises to deliver even more fun including local small businesses, a walk-through car show, live music and entertainment, delicious bites, beer and cocktails, photo opportunities, a variety of fun activations and more.
With an array of family-friendly activities, the East Village Association invites Padres fans and sports enthusiasts of all ages to join the festivities. The streets outside of Petco Park will be filled with tons of engaging activations and competitions including local sports teams such as San Diego Legion, SD Wave and San Diego FC, fitness activations from The BXNG Club, East Village Orange Theory, Yoga Box and Red Effect Infrared Fitness, a gaming area, caricature pop up from the Coloring Book Factory, photo opportunities, local vendors and engaging musical entertainment.
Get ready to move and groove because the entertainment lineup will be stacked all day long! Local talent, including DJ Wonder, Israel Maldonado, Mariachi Dinastia, DJ Boogie Blanco and DJ Artistic, will be performing on the Main Stage at 9th and J Street as well as the California Love Stage at 8th and J Street.
In addition to celebrating the Padres, this free event highlights the vibrant local businesses that make the East Village neighborhood so special. As attendees stroll through the crowded streets, they will have the chance to explore from a variety of local vendors such as Wotown Vintage for vintage apparel; Apollo + Luna for colorful handcrafted jewelry pieces; Down 2 Ferment for a selection of flavorful hot sauces; Link Up Permanent Jewelry for permanent jewelry, and other one-of-a-kind shops.
Throughout the day, attendees are encouraged to stroll through the fenced-in streets, enjoying a range of tasty bites and sips from local food and beverage vendors while soaking up the lively atmosphere. From stadium favorites to local gems, the East Villages Block Party will offer an array of bites that are sure to be a home run! Vendors such as El Rey Tacos a Vapor and Fuego Me Up will be serving culinary offerings like tacos, burritos, and more that truly showcase the vibrant tastes from San Diego. Attendees with a sweet tooth can also enjoy special cookies and baked goods at CAKED or sip on a delicious bubble tea from Teaspoon Boba. Those over the age of 21 can enjoy ice cold beer and cocktails from a variety of local breweries and bars by picking up a 21+ wristband at the entrance.
A look ahead
The summer festivities don’t end there — East Village’s biggest foodie event of the year is right around the corner! Happening on Wednesday, August 28th and Thursday, August 29th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day, the 2nd Annual Taste of East Village is going to be bigger and better than the year prior with over 30 of East Village’s top culinary gems coming together to truly showcase the rich culinary tapestry of the neighborhood. From Michelin-recognized dishes to street-style bites, the Taste of East Village promises visitors and loyal patrons an unparalleled opportunity to explore a variety of culinary delights and celebrate East Village’s diverse restaurant landscape. Upon arrival, attendees will check-in at their scheduled time at one of two locations, depending on the event day, where they will be given their Taste Passport. Guests will then make their way to each restaurant stop, sampling “tastes” to enjoy at their leisure, with each earning a stamp on their passport. A limited number of early bird tickets will be on sale until July 4 for $40 and general tickets will be available after for $45, plus a service fee.
This year’s East Village Block Party and Taste of East Village are going to be celebrations for the books so mark your calendar now!
