The City of La Mesa is kicking off the third year of the Litter Free La Mesa program, a five-year initiative aimed at beautifying neighborhoods, fostering community engagement, and advancing sustainability efforts.
In partnership with the local non-profit I Love A Clean San Diego, the Litter Free La Mesa series consists of six annual cleanup events in various locations throughout the city. During the events, volunteers learn about recycling and waste reduction.
EDCO, the City’s franchise waste hauler and also an instrumental partner in the initiative, will be providing temporary recycling and trash bins for the collected litter.
In alignment with the City’s Climate Action Plan goal of preventing 75% of waste from going to landfills by 2035, this program continues to make strides in reducing litter and educating residents about sustainable waste practices. Litter Free La Mesa also aims to enhance livability, a key component of the City’s Strategic Plan, by creating a cleaner and healthier community for all.
The community can look forward to the following cleanup events throughout La Mesa this year:
Feb. 22 – Waite Drive neighborhood
March 29 – Alvarado Avenue (storm water channel area)
May 3 – Downtown Village
June 28 – Murray Drive
Sept.13 – Riviera Drive
Nov.15 – Salvation Army Kroc Center Neighborhood
