Boys beach volleyball The Bucs defeated Cathedral Catholic 3-2 and lost to La Jolla 4-1, respectively in action last week.
According to head coach Nikki Caufield: “We played really well against Cathedral Catholic on their home courts and nearly pulled off a five-match sweep. We were disappointed with our loss to La Jolla as we had two teams lose in three games by only a couple of points. Had we won those three-game matches we would have pulled out a win.” Meantime, Zander Caufield and Andy Knight won the Boys Open Varsity Division at Coronado and Ian Briski and Dusty Schroeder placed second in the 16U CBVA Tournament. “Zander and Andy went 6-0 in the Coronado tournament in windy conditions to post a finals victory against a top Parker High School team. Dusty and Ian lost in the 16U Finals to a really tough team that came down to one or two plays. We are really proud of both teams in that they represented MBHS and showed that our top teams can compete with some of the best teams in the County,” Caufield said. Girls volleyball Mission Bay sits with a record of 15-8 heading into this week for head coach Steve Upp.
Mission Bay had second-place finishes, respectively in the Aztec Invitational and the Buc Bash tournaments. In tough Eastern League play, Mission Bay came into the week with a mark of 1-3. According to Upp, standouts in the Buc Bash event were junior Cassidy West with impressive kill numbers and fellow junior Chloe Gallego with her consistent play libero.
“The team is improving and is looking forward to the second go-round with our tough league opponents,” Upp said.
