The San Carlos neighborhood has been waiting for a new library for almost 30 years and that project is now starting to develop.
The City of San Diego purchased the parking lot on the corner of Jackson and Golfcrest in August of 2023 and plans for a new library building have been drawn up. Now it is time to preview and provide feedback for the public art installation. The artist team, Re:site, has been commissioned to create a permanent, site-specific artwork for the new library.
On Saturday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 3 p.m., Re:site will present their proposed artwork and have a conversation to gather input from the community. Refreshments will be served.
On Friday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. San Diego OASIS will present San Diego Women and Their Role in World War II.
Historian and Author, Linda Canada, will explain how women faced a variety of issues with the outbreak of war while transitioning into the male-dominated society where they had to learn to be the head of the household. Come hear real stories of the San Diego women who lived through this tumultuous time.
Artists, Barbara Peterson and Edrie Graff, will be displaying their paintings (see photo above) in the Winer Family Community Room & Art Gallery from Aug. 7-31.
Peterson teaches in the Grossmont District and Mesa College, and she enjoys painting wildlife and landscapes. Graff started painting after retirement and enjoys the relaxing and rewarding experience of creating art. Come meet them at their Artist’s Reception on Saturday, Aug. 24, from noon to 2 p.m.
Do Your Homework @ the Library returns to the San Carlos Branch on Aug. 19.
Our Homework Center is open to all K-8 students and provides free assistance with homework assignments. Homework Coaches are available to guide and support student learning. The center is open on Monday to Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
The San Carlos Friends of the Library Used Book Sale is held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Come buy books and support the Friends of the Library. Ask for a membership envelope from the book sale cashiers to join or donate to the San Carlos Friends of the Library.
We are in need of your gently used book donations which are accepted any time during library open hours.
