Holiday Bowl payout scores big
The Pacific Life Holiday Bowl distributed a record payout to both the University of California and Texas A&M University, following the Dec. 28 game in San Diego.
The Golden Bears and Aggies each received $2,334,186 for participating in the contest.
The bowl had guaranteed each team $2.2 million. The Golden Bears defeated the Aggies 45-10 in front of 62,395 fans.
“It’s a testament to the San Diego community and our hardworking volunteers that we continue to raise our per-team payouts,” said 2006 Bowl President Doug Sawyer. “As the bowl industry becomes more competitive, payouts become an increasingly important factor in determining the quality of the football teams we get here in San Diego.”
The previous Holiday Bowl high per-team payout was in 2005, when Oregon and Oklahoma each received $2,130,955.
