Bishop’s golfers fall to Parker
Francis Parker High shot a school record last week to top The Bishop’s School in a girls scholastic golf meet, 215-239.
Leading the Lady Knights with a 45 was Denell Falk, followed by a career low 46 for Jameson Kearney, Libby Hooton (47), Kayla Perez (50), Lexi Bohlmeijer (51), and playing in her last league match, senior Stephani See (57). Despite the loss, Bishop’s still finished with a stellar 7-1 Coastal Conference record and a co-league championship.
La Jolla harriers top Hoover
The La Jolla High girls cross-country teams, both varsity and JV, defeated Hoover last week by identical scores of 15-50. Both teams are undefeated, with a record of 4-0 heading into this week.
La Jolla’s varsity was led by Rosie Jaye in 21:16 and Samantha Trumbo in 21:21, respectively. The junior varsity was led by Christie Richmond in 22:53 and Sunniva Martennson in 23:10, respectively.
Bishop’s harriers cluster for top times
A number of Bishop’s School cross-country team members turned in top times at the recent South League Coastal Conference Cluster Meet at UCSD.
In the varsity girls race, Bishop’s (won team title) got top times from Elizabeth Schulze (second, 19:44), Laura Wyatt (third, 19:49), Naomi Wagner (fifth, 21:45), Alicia Triana (seventh, 22:12), Sarah Bromley (ninth, 22:16), Elizabeth Mills (11th, 22:24) and Michelle Wu (12th, 22:23).
In the varsity boys race, Bishop’s (finished second to La Jolla Country Day School) was led by Andy Morgosh (second, 17:41), Henry Su (fifth, 18:14), Alex Meyer (12th, 19:01), Stephen Bardin (22nd, 19:30), Patrick Wemmer (29th, 19:45), Patrick Anderson (32nd, 19:53) and Andrew Kuntz (34th, 19:58).
Finally, in junior varsity boys, Bishop’s won the team race and was paced by David Valerias (fourth, 20;06), Ankur Rathee (fifth, 20:14), Altshteyn Sasha (sixth, 20:21), Alex Wong (seventh, 20:22), Matt Boyle (11th, 20:30), Vikram Bhoyrul (17th, 20:58), Victor Fimbres (25th, 21:35).
Surfing icons to speak at Quint gallery
Three big names from the surf world will appear next Thursday, Nov. 9, 7 to 9 p.m., at Quint Contemporary Art, 7739 Fay Ave.
Surfer/shaper Skip Frye, five-time U.S. surfing champion Linda Benson and Steve Pezman, co-publisher and founding editor of The Surfers Journal, will talk about the sport during its blossoming in the early 1960s.
The free event is being held in conjunction with the gallery’s current exhibition, “Ron Church, Surf Photographs 1960-1965.”
