POINT LOMA — Autopsy and forensic laboratory results are still pending in the case of a 32-year-old man found shot to death Jan. 24 inside a rented unit at the Stonewood Gardens Apartments in the Midway area, according to investigators. Tests are ongoing and may take two more weeks, said Lt. Kevin Rooney of the San Diego Police Department’s Homicide Unit. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release the identity of the dead man, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. An autopsy was scheduled to take place Jan. 25. Meanwhile, police and coroner’s investigators are working to establish whether the man was the victim of a suicide, accidental death or a homicide. Police were called to the apartment complex in the 3800 block of Midway Drive around 9 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing a disturbance and the possible sound of a gunshot, according to investigators. The dead man’s girlfriend, who was renting the apartment, was reportedly witnessed leaving the unit with a second man. Rooney said the woman apparently drove about a mile away before calling 9-1-1 about 10 minutes later. Anyone with information that may be helpful to the investigation is urged to call the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293. — Kevin McKay
